THE GREAT PLAINS CHASE PHOTOGRAPHY TOUR 1

MAY 19 - 25, 2026

$3700

There is nothing quite as exhilarating to someone who loves storms as watching them as they move across the Great Plains in late spring! This is prime time to see supercell storms with incredible structure, vast skies filled with bubble-like mammatus clouds and of course, lightning and the possibility of spotting a tornado. If this is something you have always wanted to witness, then this is the tour for you!

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

This tour will start and end in Oklahoma City, OK. Participants will learn not only how to photograph and timelapse storms, but also how to find and track storms using radar in order to chase them, how to recognize and “see” storm structure in order to create more compelling compositions, how to create panoramic images of large storm cells, and much more. We will also be teaching some post-processing techniques when possible so that your storm images really shine. Storm chasing often means long days – and nights – in the field, driving over long distances for many hours, especially in the Plains. It truly is addictive though and we find that people who love this type of photography pay little attention to time and can’t wait to go out on the next chase!

WORKSHOP ITINERARY:

May 19– The chase begins early in the morning as we head toward our target area for the day. Please plan your flight to arrive May 18, the day prior to first tour date.

May 20- 24 – We will be chasing storms every day wherever we find them which could encompass anywhere in the northern, central and southern Plains. We will be breaking for meals when possible but on very active days we may be eating a lot of fast food. We will also have snacks available in our vehicle.

May 25 – We will end our chase late in the evening in Oklahoma City.  Please plan your return flight to depart May 26, the day after the final tour date. Do not book a morning flight as we sometimes will not be back in time for you to make the flight.
